The D’Addario Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit that partners with transformative music education organizations, awarded a $6,000 check to the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in support of their community outreach program called OrchKids on Tuesday, October 17th. In addition to this award, the Foundation has given away $28,000 to a diverse range of organizations in the Maryland/Pennsylvania region this year. The grant check event was held at Menchey Music in Timonium, Maryland, and owner Joel Menchey himself was on hand to help present the check with D’Addario & Co. Key Accounts Manager, Andrew Moore and Director of North American Sales, Chris Scialfa on behalf of the D’Addario Foundation.
“Handing out grants to not-for-profit initiatives like OrchKids is really the best part of our job,” said Suzanne D’Addario Brouder, Executive Director of the D’Addario Foundation. “As grant makers, we have pioneered a process of supporting grassroots efforts to bring music back into underserved communities. Our purpose is to not only provide financial support to organizations like OrchKids, but also to recognize and raise visibility for the tireless and incredibly impactful work being done to expand access to transformative music education.” Raquel Whiting Gilmer, Executive Director of OrchKids adds, “OrchKids’ partnership with the D’Addario Foundation over the last three years has been crucial to the success of delivering a high quality after-school music program to more than 1,200 Baltimore City students we serve. We are so grateful to have partners that are willing to invest in our students with multi-year support – this level of commitment enables OrchKids to reach more students and have a greater impact in our community.”
D’Addario Brouder also shares a personal thanks to Joel Menchey: “I want to take a moment to thank Joel Menchey and the people at Menchey Music who have been partners of D’Addario for a very long time. I know the folks here at Menchey feel very strongly about supporting music education as well which is why we choose this location to host the presentation.”
