Historically, women and girls have been vastly underrepresented in the music industry, and still today, they fight to be recognized. The Music Education for Girls Initiative was created to help change this gender imbalance by providing the resources and guidance girls need to study music at a higher level, and offer the encouragement they need to keep playing.
Our mission is to dedicate funding for advanced learning opportunities, scholarships, and transformative musical experiences that foster both personal and professional growth. This support not only serves to motivate girls to continue participating in existing programs, but to nurture them along their educational journey.
The purpose of this initiative falls perfectly in line with D’Addario’s overarching mission to inspire performance in all musicians, and create positive social change both within and beyond the music community—especially for the next generation of players.
This initiative is propelled by a unique partnership between D’Addario and Guitar Center on International Women’s Day, March 8th, 2018, when 50% of every D’Addario purchase is going directly towards the fund. We are excited about its potential growth and look forward to being part of such vital societal change.
A NOTE FROM OUR DIRECTOR
“Music is a universally powerful tool for self-expression and self-empowerment. The D’Addario Foundation hopes to encourage and nurture more female musicians. It is our goal to help promote more music created by women, and foster new opportunities that enable more young women to thrive in the music industry and beyond.”
– Suzanne D’Addario Brouder, Executive Director of the D’Addario Foundation
