Chiawei Lin was born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in 1988. He began playing guitar at four years old, taking lessons from his father. A few years later he became the pupil of two highly respected guitarists in Taiwan: Professor Panpei Huang, the leader of a respected guitar ensemble, and Showlee Huang, an in-demand performer and lecturer.
Since then Chiawei has remained very busy. Amid solo performances and orchestra recitals he has managed to earn many prestigious national honors and awards administered by the Taiwan government. Not to mention his aggressive travel schedule, which has included stops at all of the top international guitar competitions. Chiawei earned eight first-place prizes and four second-place prizes in the past three years alone – including at Germany’s Koblenz and Iserlohn international guitar competitions.
In fact, it was his exceedingly expressive first-prize-winning performance at Koblenz in 2013 as well as his first prize win at the 2014 Iserlohn Competition that earned Chiawei a spot in the 2013-2014 D’Addario Foundation Performance Series.
Chiawei currently studies guitar performance with influential teacher and classical guitarist, Professor Hubert Käppel, at the Koblenz International Guitar Academy, and also attends the Cologne University of Music, in Cologne, Germany.
His Carnegie Hall performance will be his U.S. debut.
